CEC partners with B.I.G. Initiative
Feb 29, 2020. Montreal, QC – Climbing Escalade Canada is please to announce it’s new partnership agreement with B.I.G. Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated gender equity, education and support of woman in climbing. The B.I.G Initiative wants to take concrete action to help Canadian women achieve their goals in climbing.
The CEC and B.I.G. Initiative encourage gyms to hire more women in central roles such as routesetting and coaching and to create a community where female-led projects can gain momentum and have a meaningful impact on our sport and its culture.
In its first year, 2019, B.I.G. Initiative held route setting workshops across Canada with USAC and IFSC routesetter, Flannery Shay Nemirow with the objective of introducing women climbers to routesetting. With the support of the CEC and presenting sponsor, The North Face, they plan even bigger and better things in 2020.
The B.I.G Initiative wants to take concrete action to help Canadian women achieve their goals in climbing. We think it’s time to elevate the role of women within the climbing community and the way to do that is in 3 steps: give training, strengthen networks and give visibility. We want to give training to women and encourage gyms to hire them in central roles such as routesetting or coaching. We also want to create a community where female-led projects can gain momentum and have a meaningful impact on our sport and its culture.
