Following the cancellation of the Youth Portion of the Speed National Championships to be held in February 2022, CEC revisited the possibility to create a new event to address participation needs for Youth B, Youth A, and Junior Speed athletes.
After consulting with multiple stakeholders, we are EXCITED to announce the 2021-2022 YOUTH SPEED NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!
The 2022 Youth Speed National Championships will take place on April 23, 2022, at the Calgary Climbing Centre – Rocky Mountain location.
A Speed National Competition will take place on Saturday, for categories Youth B, Youth A, and Junior This event will be part of the Youth World Championships selection process, as outlined in the HPP Team Selection Process
QUALIFICATION FOR SPEED COMPETITION
Due to the logistical challenges during the current pandemic, CEC will be using a virtual submission platform for the purpose of qualifying athletes to the 2022 Youth Speed National Championships. Using a virtual process alleviates the need for Provinces and Territories to host Qualifying events. It will also increase accessibility for athletes who would have challenges in participating at qualifying events.
Based on the submissions received by March 27, 2022, the fastest 16 athletes in each category / gender will be invited to the event. Additionally, any athlete that submits a time that is within 1 second of the 16th fastest time will also be invited.
**Submission period extended up until category is full or up until April 18, 2022.
