2025 Athletes’ Commission Elections

Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) is excited to announce the 2025 Athletes’ Commission (AC) elections. This election will solidify the Commission for the next year, with an official AC in place for January 2025.

Current Athletes’ Commission Members:

  • Co-Chair and Speed Representative: Michael Finn-Henry (2024-2026)
  • Co-Chair and Boulder Representative: Babette Roy (20223-2025)
  • Lead Representative: Molly Dreher (2023-2025)
  • Para-Climbing Representative : Shamus Boulianne (2024-2026)

 

Election Details:

Positions & Candidates for Election:

  • Member-at-Large: Evan Lau
  • Domestic Competition Representative: Aidan Pinsk or Sabrina Thayer-Head

Deadline to cast vote is December 23, 2024

Voting Eligibility:

  • Member-at-Large: all current and previous National Team athletes are eligible to vote for this position.
  • Domestic Competition Representative: all domestic competitors with a valid CEC license are eligible to vote for this position.

Special Note on Domestic Competitor Representative Election

  • There is one position available for Domestic Competitor Representative, but two candidates are running: Aidan Pinsk and Sabrina Thayer-Head.
  • The candidate who receives the most votes will be appointed to the Domestic Competitor Representative position.
  • The unsuccessful candidate, if they receive at least 50% of the votes cast, will be appointed to the Member-at-Large position.

Meet the Candidates:

Evan Lau – Member at-large

Evan Lau is applying for the Member-at-Large position on Climbing Escalade Canada’s Athletes’ Commission. With over five years of national and three years of international climbing competition experience, Evan is passionate about advocating for athlete well-being and advancing climbing in Canada. As a nursing student, Evan emphasizes health and wellness in his advocacy, focusing on improving the Canadian National Ranking (CNR) system to better accommodate athletes with financial constraints and address regional and youth disparities. Committed to fostering inclusivity and diversity, Evan aims to strengthen communication between athletes and the board, ensuring all voices are represented in shaping the future of Canadian climbing.

Aidan Pinsk – Domestic Competitior Representative

Aidan Pinsk is reapplying for the domestic competitor representative position on Climbing Escalade Canada’s (CEC) Athletes’ Commission. Aidan brings extensive competition experience, having participated at national and international levels through the NACS circuit. He has a strong grassroots connection from competing in Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia, along with his involvement in coaching and routesetting. As a member of the Athletes’ Commission since 2021, Aidan leverages his familiarity with CEC policies and operations to advocate for changes that benefit athletes, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.

Sabrina Thayer-Head – Domestic Competitor Representative

Sabrina Thayer-Head is applying for the Domestic Competitor Representative position on Climbing Escalade Canada’s Athletes’ Commission. Competing on the Canadian scene since 2020, Sabrina prioritizes bouldering at the national and NACS levels but has also participated in national lead and provincial speed competitions. Her full-time dedication to climbing fuels her passion for advocating for athletes striving to represent Canada internationally or grow within the national circuit. Sabrina’s primary goal is to ensure the development of emerging athletes is prioritized, recognizing their potential to become future Canadian team members and elevate the sport nationally and internationally.
