Climbing Escalade Canada Releases Provisional Lima 2027 Pan American Games Internal Nomination Procedure

Apr 24, 2026

Climbing Escalade Canada has released its Provisional Internal Nomination Procedure (INP) for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.

The provisional INP outlines the process CEC will use to nominate athletes to represent Canada at Lima 2027, subject to Canada earning quota places through the final Pan American Games Qualification System. The document has been released ahead of the final World Climbing/Pan Am Council qualification system in order to provide athletes and coaches with early visibility on the nomination process and to ensure the full 2026 World, Pan American, and North American competitive seasons can be considered.

A key component of the provisional INP is Pathway 2: World Series National Team Ranking 2026. Under this pathway, and based on World Climbing National Federation quota allocations, CEC will nominate athletes according to their ranking in the Lima 2027 PAG National Ranking System, which will run from April 2026 to February 2027 inclusive. This ranking period also captures the start of the 2026 North American Cup Series (NACS) and World Climbing World Series competitions.

For Boulder and Lead, athletes will earn Event Points at CNR-eligible competitions, using the current Event Point calculations from the 2026 National Team Program Policy. National Team squad status will not apply to the Lima 2027 PAG ranking process, and Event Point decay will not be applied. On March 1, 2027, each athlete’s top three Event Point results earned since April 1, 2026, will be totalled to determine the athlete ranking.

For Speed, athletes will be ranked using the average of their best five climb times from CNR-eligible events during the Lima 2027 PAG National Ranking System timeframe. A maximum of two climb times per competition may be included. For U19 Speed athletes, up to two 2027 Youth Speed Nationals U19/Youth A climb times may be added to their ranking, in addition to up to two Senior Speed National division climb times. If competition opportunities are limited due to extenuating circumstances, CEC may also host official non-competition Speed timing events where athletes can post CNR-eligible times.

The provisional INP will be updated once the final Lima 2027 Pan American Games Qualification System document is released by World Climbing/Pan Am Council.
