Coach Application – 2026 World Climbing Nations Grand Finale

Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) is inviting applications for one volunteer National Team Coach to support Team Canada at the 2026 World Climbing Nations Grand Finale in Iizuka, Fukuoka, Japan.
The Nations Grand Finale is a unique international team competition bringing together six invited National Federations. Canada will compete in both Boulder and Lead, with two male and two female athletes competing across both disciplines. Qualification and Finals will take place November 7–8, with the Technical Meeting and team confirmation taking place on November 6. The competition will be held at the Iizuka Sports Resort – The Retreat in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, approximately 40 km from Fukuoka International Airport. The team format places a strong emphasis on athlete collaboration, communication and tactical decision-making. In both Boulder and Lead, the coach will play an active role in assigning athletes and shaping competition strategy.
The Opportunity
CEC is seeking one volunteer coach to lead and support the four-athlete Canadian team throughout the competition.
The selected coach will work with the athletes and CEC High Performance Director to support pre-event planning, competition preparation, technical and tactical decision-making, and athlete performance throughout the event.
Preference will be given to coaches who:
- have experience coaching high-performance Boulder and/or Lead athletes;
- have experience supporting athletes at national or international competition;
- have a strong understanding of current World Climbing competition rules and formats;
- demonstrate strong technical, tactical, communication and team-management skills;
- are currently working with or have experience working with the athletes selected to the team; and
- are a CEC coach in good standing and meet all applicable CEC screening and Safe Sport requirements.
Given the unique format of the Nations Grand Finale, experience working collaboratively with athletes and making effective competition-day tactical decisions will be considered an asset.

CEC has received travel support from World Climbing to assist with event expenses. Details regarding approved coach travel, accommodation, ground transportation and per diem will be confirmed with the successful applicant. World Climbing has advised invited National Federations that it will provide a travel grant toward event expenses.
