CEC is excited to announce the hiring of Malek Taleb as CEC’s National Team Coach for the Boulder and Lead disciplines. Malek’s appointment is effective as of April1, 2022, and will be a cornerstone of our High Performance Road to Paris 2024.
Coach Taleb’s passion for climbing has been driving him for over two decades, though if you ask him, he’s just getting started! Malek’s 24 years in the climbing industry, combined with his engineering background, has given him a unique perspective into becoming a specialist in analyzing climbing movements.
Malek has been coaching at all levels for 15 years, with 8 of his athletes qualifying for the National Team over the past 10 years. As the former Canadian Team Manager from 2015-2018, Malek gained valuable knowledge of competitions at the IFSC level.
Coach Taleb’s dedication to coaching comes from seeing the personal growth and climbing development in all of the athletes he works with, and he is excited to bring this to the National Team Coach position.
“We look forward to working with Coach Taleb and our 2022 High Performance Team. With Malek’s valuable experience, our program will reach new heights and promises to be a force to be reckoned with,” says Andrew Wilson, CEC’s High Performance Director.

CEC would like to thank Sport Canada and Arc’Teryx, whose support makes this hiring possible. As we receive confirmation for more funding, we might have additional exciting announcement to the High Performance Coaching Team! Stay tuned!
