To participate in an event hosted by Climbing Escalade Canada, participants must qualify in one of 3 ways.
- Pre-Qualification, determined and communicated by CEC
- Provincial Qualification, determined and communicated by your respective Provincial and Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO)
- Application Form, determined and communicated by CEC
1. PRE-QUALIFICATION PATHWAYS
- All pre-qualified athletes must be licensed members in good standing with their Provincial or Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO).
- Quotas will be discipline-specific (e.g., National Team athletes in Speed will receive invitations for Speed events).
- Quotas will be age-specific (e.g., based on the individual’s date of birth)
National Team Athletes (Elite and Performance Squads)
- Athletes named to the National Team Elite or Performance Squad as of September 1 of the year prior to the National Event will receive a direct invitation to the Senior National Championships (discipline-specific), and for the Youth National Championships (if age-eligible).
- Athletes in the National Team Development Squad must qualify through their provincial or territorial circuit.
Senior Nationals Champions
- Reigning champions from the previous Senior National Championships in each discipline and gender category will be pre-qualified for the equivalent Senior National Championships (discipline-specific).
Youth Nationals Champions
- Reigning champions from the most recent Youth Nationals in the Youth B, Youth A and Junior categories will be pre-qualified for the equivalent Senior National Championships and Youth National Championships (if age eligible, discipline-specific).
Youth World Championships
- Athletes who attended the most recent Youth World Championships in Youth B and Youth A will receive a direct invitation to the Youth National Championships (if age eligible, discipline-specific)
(Note: the pre-qualification pathway involving a Minimum Performance Time has been removed for the 2025-2026 season)
2. PROVINCIAL OR TERRITORIAL PATHWAY
- Each PTSO will receive an allocated number of quotas for CEC events.
- Each PTSO is responsible for distributing these quotas within their membership.

3. APPLICATION FORMS
- Foreign National Athletes – Non-Canadian athletes affiliated with another National Federation (e.g., USA Climbing) and Temporary Residents in Canada, must apply directly to CEC for event participation. More information here
- Canadian Citizens Living Abroad (NEW in 2025) – Canadian citizens residing outside of Canada may apply directly to CEC for event participation. More information here
