Notice of Corrections to CNR Policy Tables

May 22, 2025

Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) has identified and corrected typographical errors in the Continuous National Ranking (CNR) calculation document. Following a thorough review, we confirm that the following corrections do not affect athletes’ placement in the CNR rankings. The correct calculations have been applied since the inception of the CNR. The purpose of this correction notice is to inform all stakeholders of corrections to the policy document, not to the actual CNR points and rankings.

Identified Typos:

The Normalized Average Field Size for Continental Senior Events was incorrectly listed as:

  • Lead: 30 (correct value: 45)
  • Boulder: 45 (correct value: 60)

These corrected values have always been used in actual CNR calculations since the model’s implementation in 2021. The error was only present in the published document.

Identified Errors and Corrections

  • Normalized Average Field Size – Continental Senior Events (NACS & PA Cups)
    • Lead: Correct value is 45 (previously stated as 30)
    • Boulder: Correct value is 60 (previously stated as 45)
    • Note: These corrected values have been accurately applied in all CNR calculations since 2021.
  • Position Points Table – Continental Cups (Lead & Speed)

A detailed summary of the changes is available in the Blackline Document.

Ongoing CNR Review

CEC is currently reviewing the CNR system with plans for a revised implementation in 2026. Additionally, a CNR dashboard is being developed to provide more transparency in respect to the calculation of rankings. This dashboard will be available by the fall of 2025.
