Climbing Escalade Canada Announces the 2026 Jaxson MacDonald Memorial Grant Recipients

Jun 24, 2026

Climbing Escalade Canada is proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 Jaxson MacDonald Memorial Grant.

Thanks to the continued generosity of the Canadian climbing community, nine grants of $1,000 have been awarded to support youth athletes pursuing excellence in competition while demonstrating a commitment to their communities. It is still possible to donate to the fund here: DONATE | Climbing Escalade Canada

Established in memory of Jaxson MacDonald, the grant recognizes athletes who embody the values that defined Jaxson’s life and climbing journey: dedication, perseverance, sportsmanship, leadership, and a commitment to giving back. While competitive achievement is an important component of the selection process, equal consideration is given to the positive impact athletes have on those around them.

The 2026 recipients are:

  • Anabelle Gonthier
  • Antoine Caron
  • Avery MacDonald
  • Emily Shi
  • Jasper Selda
  • Mia Thompson
  • Nicolas Arteau
  • Noah Schwartz
  • Sofia Smale

The selection committee was inspired by the quality of applications received this year. The recipients distinguished themselves not only through their athletic accomplishments, but also through their contributions to their clubs, communities, and fellow athletes. We are honoured to support them as they continue their climbing journeys and pursue their goals both on and off the wall.

On behalf of Climbing Escalade Canada and the MacDonald family, congratulations to all recipients and thank you to everyone who contributed to making this program possible. Your generosity continues to create meaningful opportunities for the next generation of Canadian climbers.
