CEC Senior Combined Series (Boulder & Lead)

SERIES DETAILS

OBJECTIVES

  • Crowning National Champions
  • Continuous National Ranking (CNR) points
  • High Performance Program (HPP) entry pathway
  • Development opportunity for athletes who will not make HPP or World Cup / World Championship teams
  • Finals are at a level to prepare athletes who will make the HPP and WC teams
  • Talent identification event for 16-19 years old athletes
  • Route setters and officials’ development opportunity
  • National celebration of our sport

 

SCHEDULE

This event will take place over 5 days:

  • Day 1 and Day 2 – Boulder Competition
  • Day 3 – Rest day
  • Day 4 and Day 5 – Lead Competition

Athletes can register and qualify in both disciplines, or only one discipline.

 

COMPETITION FORMAT

Bouldering Format

  • Qualifiers – 5 on 5 off isolation. 4 Problems OR IFSC Flash Format 6 problems
  • Semi-Finals – 5 on 5 off isolation. 4 Problems
  • Finals – World Cup format, 4 minutes.  4 Problems 

 Lead Format

  • Two (2) qualifiers – Flash Format
  • One (1) Semi-Final – On-sight 
  • One (1) Final – On-sight. 

 

QUALIFICATION

Pathway #1 – Pre-Qualification Pathway:

  • HPP Athletes
    • Current HPP Athletes at the 5 months mark will receive a direct invitation to the National Championships
    • Quotas will be discipline-based (HPP athletes in lead will receive invitation for lead event, etc)
  • Continuous National Ranking
    • Additional athletes ranked in the CNR (ex: positions 7 and 8) may receive invitations as well, based on event capacity
    • Number of quotas will be determined at least 5 months prior to the National event
  • Senior Nationals
    • Reigning Champions from the previous Senior National for each discipline / gender will be pre-qualified for the National Championships (discipline-based)
  • Youth Nationals
    • Top finishers from the most recent Youth Nationals in Youth A and Junior Categories
    • Number of quotas will be determined at least 5 months prior to the National event

Note: Unused quota from Pre-qualification Pathways will be re-allocated (added) to Provincial Qualification Pathways

Pathway #2 – Provincial Qualification Pathways

  • PTSO Guaranteed National Championships Quotas
    • Each province and territories will start with a fixed number of quota spots for the National Championships. The fixed number of quotas will be determined at least 5 months ahead of the event based on capacity
    • Each province and territory has autonomy to decide how they will fill these quotas. CEC highly recommends the hosting of a fair competition to qualify the athletes in an equitable manner
    • Unused quota in this category will be re-allocated to the other provinces in the same region using a membership size priority system
