Records Fall as Rising Stars Redefine Canadian Speed Climbing at the 2026 Speed National Championships

Jan 31, 2026

Climbing Escalade Canada is proud to celebrate a historic day for Canadian speed climbing, as multiple national records fell across Youth A, Junior, and Youth B categories at the 2026 Speed National Championships. From breakthrough performances by rising stars to milestone moments that redefined the national standard, these athletes delivered a showcase of speed, precision, and competitive excellence that marks a new chapter in Canada’s high-performance pathway.

Youth A (U19) Men – Canadian Record
Bruce Kong (BC) – 5.931

After setting an incredible five Canadian records in the U17 category over the past two years, Bruce has done it again in his very first competition as a U19-eligible athlete. He now holds the Youth A (U19) Canadian Speed Record at 5.931, breaking the previous mark of 6.03, set by Alexander Kovats in 2025.

Youth A (U19) Women & Senior Women – Canadian Record
Sienna Chow (BC) – 7.909

Sienna is no stranger to Canadian Speed Records, having established five since 2023. This one, however, is truly special. By breaking the 8-second barrier, Sienna shattered her 2025 record of 8.05 and surpassed the long-standing Senior Women’s Canadian Record of 7.990, originally set by Alannah Yip at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.

Youth A Women & Senior Women – Canadian Record
Avery MacDonald (BC) – 7.884

Inspired by Sienna’s historic run, Avery responded just minutes later with a record-breaking time of her own. In her first competition as a U19-eligible athlete, she posted 7.884, becoming the fastest Canadian woman ever and pushing the limits of speed climbing even further.

Junior Women – Canadian Record
Elise Villeneuve (QC) – 8.063

While the Junior Women’s field may be small, it is mighty and fast. Elise broke her own 2025 record with a new time of 8.063. With this momentum, the 8-second barrier is clearly within reach — keep an eye on her this season!

Youth B – Canadian Record
Nicholas Hsu (BC) – 6.379

With Bruce aging out of U17, the door was wide open for a new Canadian record—and Nicholas stepped through it in style. Stopping the clock at an incredible 6.379, he shattered the previous U17 mark by 0.13 seconds. Welcome to the record books, Nicholas!

Congratulations to the 2025-2026 Speed National Champions and finalists!
