Updates to the 2025 National Team Policy

Feb 20, 2025

Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) has completed a brief review of the 2025 National Team Policy, making key clarifications to enhance transparency and consistency in the National Team intake process. The previous version contained misleading and conflicting information, which has now been resolved to provide clearer guidelines for athletes. While most changes are clarifications and refinements, they will impact how and when athletes are invited to the National Team and international events.

Key Updates:

  • Clarified National Team intake process – outlining initial and ongoing selection criteria.
  • Updated athlete eligibility requirements – ensuring alignment with international standards.
  • Refined squad structure – distinguishing between Elite, Performance, and Development Squads more effectively.
  • Enhanced language around quota distribution – ensuring fair and transparent invitations to international events.

These updates reinforce CEC’s commitment to a high-performance pathway that supports Canadian climbers at every stage of their competitive journey while ensuring fairness and competitiveness in the process.

Review the policy changes:

This revised policy takes effect immediately, following its approval by the CEC Board of Directors on February 11, 2025.
